More Than a Fairy Tale

Last Known Location

Last Known Location

There were elements
Of alchemy
Throughout the house ~
The very air was filled
With mystery ~

And in the darkness ~
Deeper shadows lurked
And moved ~
Hinting of matters
Sacred and profane ~

Of secrets too long kept
And far too dangerous ~
Ever to see
The light of day ~

I donโ€™t know
What drew me in ~
How I came to be
Standing as if
Mesmerized ~
But I sense that
It is time
For me to go ~

What was I thinking ~
I should never have
Unlatched the door ~

But as I reach for it
The handle turns ~
And slowly the door
Opens inward toward me ~

And I know my fate
Is sealed ~

I'm either a transplanted East Coaster or a born again West Coaster. My heart kept pulling me toward Oregon, and when I followed it I found my dream, which I am living daily. My dream of becoming a writer has come true as well. I am in the company of people who speak my language, and the sense of community is healing hurts I didn't know were there. I am very grateful for my enormous good fortune.

  1. Scary! Jill

  2. I enjoyed your verses. It must have been curiosity to enter within or ????? Now my curiosity is engaged.

  3. My image was of a large lion headed man who walked through the opened door. On his head was a crown tilted at a rakish angle . After looking around the room he began growling “Welcome to my home.”

  4. Very interested, Have a wonderful day friend ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Playing detective. Not a spoiler. But I have a theory. Did she become one with the house once she opened it up to enter? The house is frightening. To be absorbed by a house, is scary. This is the fantasy I draw from your mystical words. You did magic. Creating a plane of existence beyond this one. I wonder why the image of this house should be so disturbing & make one think of ghosts & death? Great writing. Fun imagining but I am not so certain it is all in our imaginations. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Hello, the secret keeper. No, I don’t believe the house ate her. I don’t do houses that eat people. Maybe I should do a sequel – from the other side of the door. I’ll have to think about it. If I do, I’ll let you know. ๐Ÿ™‚
