Everyday Love

1371087908.jpg Fireflies

We ate dinner in
The garden tonight ~

The candles were
Almost as bright
As the fireflies ~
And the air was
Like warm silk
Upon my skin ~

There was chicken ~
Redolent with herbs ~
And a light crisp
White wine ~ crusty
Bread ~ and tomatoes
Still warm from
The sun ~

We talked with
Our eyes ~
Exchanging the
Occasional buttery
Kiss ~ or tasty morsel ~

We made a memory ~
And I cherish its
Very ordinariness ~

We have had our
High spots and
Our lows ~

But truly it is days
Like this ~ that
Knit the strands of
Our lives together ~

I'm either a transplanted East Coaster or a born again West Coaster. My heart kept pulling me toward Oregon, and when I followed it I found my dream, which I am living daily. My dream of becoming a writer has come true as well. I am in the company of people who speak my language, and the sense of community is healing hurts I didn't know were there. I am very grateful for my enormous good fortune.

  1. It’s a good thing I was finishing up my dinner or I might have been tempted to lick the screen. 😀

    • “Coincidentally” enough, I had roast chicken for dinner last night. And I am frequently tempted to lick the screen. The veneer of civilization is thinner on some of us than on others! 🙂
