Phoenix Rising

You left without a word ~
Between one moment
And the next ~
It sounds so trite ~
But it was tragedy
Enough for me ~

It’s strange that you ~
Always so clever
With your words ~
Should be struck dumb
And cowardly by
What you’d done ~

I’m sure that ~
Given time enough ~
You’d try and make
Me see
That it was all for
My own good ~

And all along ~
I knew that it would
End like this ~
That I’d be left alone ~
To weep
Among the ashes ~

Yet from those ashes ~
Like the Phoenix ~
I shall come alive again~
My suffering will end and
I shall rise triumphant ~

I will survive the fire
Can you say the same . . .

I'm either a transplanted East Coaster or a born again West Coaster. My heart kept pulling me toward Oregon, and when I followed it I found my dream, which I am living daily. My dream of becoming a writer has come true as well. I am in the company of people who speak my language, and the sense of community is healing hurts I didn't know were there. I am very grateful for my enormous good fortune.

  1. Thank you for sharing this poem. It is a realism that has happened too many times. I am glad to be a living breathing Phoenix.

  2. Ooh … Melody, lovely expression and your rise, should have had trumpets sounding that you survived love’s disappointment to meet brand new day.
