The Stalker

Woman being stalked

In a moment of
Careless kindness ~
I reached out
And you latched on ~

And all my efforts
To dislodge you ~
My patient explanations ~
The missed appointments
And my distant air ~
Have missed their mark ~

I do not know if
It is stubbornness ~
Or simply willful blindness ~
I fear that it is
Something darker and
Less innocent
Than unrequited love ~

I’ve seen this movie
And it never ends well ~
Clearly something
Must be done ~

I hoped it would not
Come to this ~
But I will protect myself
It is my right ~
I am not the fluffy helpless
Creature you imagine ~

This is the only warning
You will receive ~

I'm either a transplanted East Coaster or a born again West Coaster. My heart kept pulling me toward Oregon, and when I followed it I found my dream, which I am living daily. My dream of becoming a writer has come true as well. I am in the company of people who speak my language, and the sense of community is healing hurts I didn't know were there. I am very grateful for my enormous good fortune.

  2. Reminds me of the song “Uninvited” by Alanis Morissette. Very nicely said.

  3. A good poem but it left me feeling unsure if it’s fiction or reality.

Besides this, sister mine, I am drawn to her detached air and firm resolution to handle the situation herself.

  4. As all good fiction should! The lady is a figment of my imagination, but very resolute for all that.

  5. A great post. Women’s feelings; woman empowered. Great reading for ladies and gents. Inspiring!

  6. Hmmm mmm …. The poem brings up feelings I did not want to have of concern and hair standing up on the back of my neck. Nicely done for fiction. It remains a warning of what could be..

    • Frank, it’s never happened to me, but there are a lot of people out there who can mistake kindness for something else. This one may be in for a surprise! (If it were for real, which it’s not!) 🙂
