The Lady and the Wolf

Lady and the Wolf

The great wolf howled
From the woods today ~
I sense him there in the
Shadow of the trees ~
Hidden from view
But intently staring ~
Watching my window
With his golden eyes ~

I draw the silken curtains
Tightly closed ~
But every time I dare
A cautious glance ~
He lifts his head
As if to taste the air ~
He is seeking a rare
And elusive scent ~

Will tonight be the night
I follow him? ~
I hear him calling to me
In my mind ~

And still I am torn
Between two worlds ~
I’ve resisted so long
But I grow weary ~
Tired of denying
My heart and my soul ~

Tonight I will shed this
Clumsy human flesh ~
And I will run
With my savage love ~
Under the pendant moon
Of harvest gold ~

I'm either a transplanted East Coaster or a born again West Coaster. My heart kept pulling me toward Oregon, and when I followed it I found my dream, which I am living daily. My dream of becoming a writer has come true as well. I am in the company of people who speak my language, and the sense of community is healing hurts I didn't know were there. I am very grateful for my enormous good fortune.

  4. Loved this and wolves are very cool … unless in a pack, then one must be cautious.

  5. Well, yes, unless you’re one of the pack. Thank you! 🙂
