Appassionata

Out of nowhere ~
With no warning ~
Something takes me
Unawares ~

Perhaps it is the way
The air has brushed
My skin ~
An easing of defenses ~
Subliminally felt
But wrenchingly real ~
And as painful as even
My worst enemy
Could wish ~

The feelings come in waves ~
And I wonder if I will
Return from this trip ~
Undertaken as unwillingly
As that of any alien abductee ~

I am buffeted by the winds
That push me this way. ~
Pull me that ~
Make me waver in the
Surety of my course ~

Hinting at all manner of
Enticements if I but
Cast aside my prudence ~
Throw caution to those
Selfsame winds
And lose it all for love ~

But even if I lost it all
How would I know ~
Frozen in this moment ~
Completely out of synch
With time ~

I follow ~
Helplessly enchanted ~
Drawn on by music only
You can make me hear ~
My pied piper ~
My music man ~
My only love ~

The Love That Dared

Clarice was the name
That he cried out ~
When he woke last night
From a troubled sleep ~
My name is Laura ~

Of course I’ve worried ~
And I had hoped we had
More time ~ but I fear that his
Subconscious is warning him ~
He watches me so closely ~

I know he loves me and
I’ve tried so hard to love him ~
To keep my promises ~ but
It is in Clarice’s arms ~ not
Stephen’s ~ that I go up in flames ~

It seems as if my body is as
Barren as my heart where
He is concerned ~ so there
Will be no child to care
For us when we grow old ~

There is no help for it we
Must leave soon ~ I will take
My dowry ~ which he does
Not need ~ and I will leave
A letter and my wedding rings ~

By the time he reads it we will
Be long gone ~ sister widows
Who will share a quiet home
By day ~ and nights
Filled with secret passion ~

(Before anyone asks, this is not personal to me, but is one of the stories waiting in the ether to be told.)

It’s Only That

The full moon
Has overtaken the sky
And once again I feel
The calling in my blood
And in the very fluids
Of my body

There is no single
Cell that’s unaware of
The moon’s attraction
Nor am I any more ~ love
Immune to the lures
That you cast out

You blind my senses
And take my breath away
But even a senseless
Sightless person can
Learn caution and
I will not move beneath
Your cat’s paw any more

I will hide in the shadows
Created by the sun’s light
And the moon’s inky and
Impenetrable crevasses
An amorphous secret
At the heart of it all
Where you cannot touch me

The Skies of March

Photo by Fillipe Gomes on Pexels.com

It’s only three-fifteen and
Already the dark clouds
Are rolling in just as the
Forecasters promised

But wait! They are being
Chased quite ardently
By snow-white suitors
Dressed in sky-blue robes

Which are themselves in
Peril from the stern grey
Counselors who follow
Discreetly behind raising

As necessary (like umbrellas)
Guidance and objections
For you to break
Your first illusions on

And now it begins all over
Again and I watch once
More from within the
Eyes of the storm
